Frequently Asked Questions
About DBT at The Glow Centre
All prospective clients who wish to undertake any form of DBT with us are required to book in for a DBT assessment. You can read more on our Intake process page.
New DBT participants can commence pre-commitment and individual DBT as soon as we have clinician availability.
Skills group modules run one at a time, participants will commence skills groups at the start of the next module once pre-commitment is complete.
When you are booked in for a DBT assessment, you will be booked with the next available DBT trained clinician. This clinician will conduct the assessment, however they may not be the same clinician you will see ongoing. The DBT team will determine the best DBT clinician for you to see. You will then be contacted to discuss the plan moving forward.
If you are participating in Stream 1 or Stream 2 of DBT at GlowDBT, your individual therapy will be undertaken with a GlowDBT therapist. It is not possible to undertake the individual therapy part of DBT with an external therapist while in our DBT program.
We have this policy in place because DBT is a specialised and intensive form of therapy, with specific strategies, all of which need to be utilised and applied consistently within the DBT framework for you to get the most out of your DBT treatment. All of our DBT therapists are trained in DBT, apply the framework consistently, and meet weekly to discuss all of the clients in our program.
If you are considering coming to The Glow Centre for treatment, you should speak to your current therapist about what you want to do. You are welcome to contact us for information about DBT and our programs to help you do this, or if you want to make a first appointment just to explore if the program and our centre might be right for you.
We do not offer the option of just attending DBT groups at GlowDBT. There are multiple reasons for this, the most important being that we need to meet with you for an individual DBT session every week, to help you learn and apply the DBT skills you learn in the group to your particular problems. It is important that we have this type of therapeutic relationship with you to help you master the DBT skills.
The first step in accessing any DBT treatment with us, including DBT-informed therapy (individual therapy incorporating some of the DBT skills and strategies) is to book a DBT assessment.
We see clients from the age of 18 for DBT. DBT treatment for teens differs to adults.
It is difficult for us to provide such information before an assessment has taken place, as without meeting with you to work out a suitable DBT plan we can not know what DBT Stream you would be recommended for.
We have however, provided you with approximate weekly costings on our Fees, rebates and policies page which you can use to calculate an estimate of costs.
Out-of-pocket costs can be calculated by deducting the Medicare rebate amounts from those costs.
Appointments
We request that the client themselves make any enquiries about seeing us. The act of making an enquiry or booking is a very important first step for the client and, in most cases, this ensures that the client is ready to begin their DBT journey.
Medicare offer a small amount of rebates claimable with a valid referral from your GP or psychiatrist. See our Fees, rebates and policies page for more information. Referring doctors can see our For Referrers page for information about referring to us.
We are a private allied health practice, we do not bulk bill or accept third party billing. Payment is required at the time of individual session, group payment is to be made prior to the module commencement.
To reduce your out of pocket costs, Medicare rebates may apply for eligible clients, see your doctor if you think you may be eligible for a referral and mental health care plan.
Selected clinicians offer a small amount of appointments in the late afternoon / early evening, subject to availability.
Skills group days and times can vary from module to module, depending on the DBT group facilitator's caseload schedules.
We require 48 hours’ notice to reschedule or cancel a session without incurring any extra fees. This policy is in place to allow us to offer the allocated time to another client who may be on a cancellation or waiting list for an appointment. Missed skills group sessions will not be refunded.
