About Melissa

As a psychologist I love DBT because it gives me and my clients a really clear, non-judgemental framework for understanding difficulties with emotion regulation, including where they come from and what to do about them. It also helps us to prioritise what to focus on and when in therapy, and some really practical strategies that are useful for so many problems in living.

My journey with DBT began with buying the first edition of Dr Marsha Linehan’s DBT skills training manual as a new graduate in 2003. I began using the skills with many of my clients, who I was seeing for a range of problems, and began to see my clients getting improvements. I also began applying the principles to my own life, and I have used it with clients and with myself ever since. It has grown to be my passion, and DBT continues to be the primary framework that I use with most of my clients, 18 years later!

I have developed experience in delivering DBT skills training groups, providing individual therapy, providing phone coaching, and participating in consultation teams since the mid-00s. I was the first clinician in Australia to be intensively trained in the DBT Prolonged Exposure (DBT PE) protocol, when I completed my training at Behavioral Tech/The Linehan Institute in Seattle, Washington, in 2017.

I have been involved in delivering DBT programs to adolescents and adults, in a private hospital, NGOs, and in private practice. I was involved as a PhD student in a large, multi-site study into DBT within our frontline mental health teams. I have been involved in the setup of DBT programs in NGOs, including the first comprehensive DBT program delivered within an NGO in collaboration with a public mental health service. I am also a DBT supervisor and trainer, and have delivered intensive DBT training to over 200 individuals and teams in Queensland and NSW.

I love working within The Glow Centre DBT program because we are a team of committed, compassionate DBT clinicians, who support each other to stay adherent to the DBT model and give the best possible DBT to our clients. We are also committed to excellence and strive for excellence in all of the DBT that we do, and we are always brainstorming ways to improve how we deliver DBT.

About Rosie

As a psychologist I love DBT because of the way in which it validates the painful and unpleasant experiences of each of us, whilst also challenging us to accept, acknowledge and move forward towards a life that is worth living. I love the collaborative and open, curious approach that DBT encourages in working with clients to overcome their lifelong challenges.

My journey with DBT began with Melissa Kent who trained me whilst I was working in a community based mental health organisation in 2018. I have experience in facilitating skills training groups and providing individual therapy, and have been a part of delivering DBT programs in both community based organisations and private practice.

I love working within The Glow Centre DBT program because of the supportive team environment provided by our DBT clinicians, as well as the wide range of clients who I am able to work with from a DBT framework.

About Katie

As a psychologist I love DBT because of its practical and easy to understand approach to improving and resolving many of life’s challenges.

My journey with DBT began when I first learnt about it at university and then saw an opportunity to create a DBT program to support people staying at a homeless shelter I was managing. We engaged Melissa to provide level 3 comprehensive training to myself and the team and I was sold! Since coming into private practice, I have used DBT informed therapy with individual clients regularly and am a part of the DBT consult team. I have seen firsthand how effective DBT can be for people with borderline personality disorder, but also for people experiencing a broad range of challenges including anxiety, depression, and relationship problems.

I love working within The Glow Centre DBT program because I feel privileged to go on a journey with each new client I meet where I’m entrusted with their life story and given the opportunity to support them to develop new skills to better navigate life’s challenges.

Client Relations Team

Hi there, I am the Practice Manager here at The Glow Centre.

You will most likely receive a call from me when you enquire about DBT at our practice, where I will talk you though the options that we offer, and assist you with booking your assessment when we are open for intakes.

As Practice Manager, my role is to ensure the smooth running of the practice. I also support the clinicians in the practice behind the scenes by managing their calendars and workloads, and I work closely with the Director and Operations Manager to ensure all systems, processes and procedures are in place for the optimal running of the practice.

I have over 20 years experience in administration, including allied health, and bring excellent organisational skills and a calm, competent presence to the administration side of our very busy practice.

I love working at The Glow Centre because everyone who works here is client focused.  From our admin staff to our clinical staff, we strive to provide a safe and comfortable space for our clients to visit,  where they can put themselves first and make positive changes to their lives.
